The constitutions of the freemasons was published in 17 23. It set forth a sort of loose, broad set of moral ideals that freemasonry was supposedly intended to cultivate. The idea that religion and politics are the sort of topics you shouldn't broach in polite society comes from this early kind of masonic manifesto.
