The Relationship Between Ownership and Rights

Hofeld argued that there can be no legal relationship between a person and a thing, only between persons relative to a thing. He distinguished four meanings that are sometimes ascribed to a right. The most common case of claim rights in law involve things like contracts. A liberty right indicates the absence of any operative claim right.
