The Importance of Oath of Allegiance
In the 1930s, people thought that oath of allegiance is an oath made to God. In 1943-1944, there are endless discussions whether it is religiously and morally and ethically acceptable for them to violate their oath of allegiance to Adolf Hitler. That is something that is more significant than we may think. From a 21st century perspective, we think, eh, oath of loyalty is just something symbolic. Not so in the 1930s.
