The Effects of Worry on the Default Mode Network

The default mode network is involved in self-referential processing, which means thinking about ourselves. It's activated when we're worrying, when we're planning, and even when we're craving. Anything that leads to an expansion is probably deactivating this brain region. And so you can think of it as this binary, we're contracting when we're caught up, we're expanding when we're letting go.
