Is Pluralistic Ignorance a Part of the Problem?
I think that pluralistic ignorance can also happen not because people are like motivated to give an inaccurate answer, but because they are genuinely mistaken about what other people think. And the reason for that is that they self-sensor, because there's a strong norm against expressing their beliefs. That's how you end up with an inaccurate perception. Otherwise, you know, you hear what people tell you and you're not going to be people on average aren't systematically mistaken.
