The Role of Socialism in Oxford Philosophy

A common cliche, a stereotype of Oxford philosophy is that it is conservative. It's positive because it somehow thinks that what it's trying to do is to restore us to the kind of state of innocence. Many Marxists indeed do and I discuss some of them in the book Herbert Markuser who's by then in America and Peri Anderson later to become the editor of the New Left Review. There's others such as Gia Lostin who said admiring things about the Soviet Union. Austin went so far as to travel there to go see what the experiment was like.
