Educational Reforms and the Challenge of Nobles

This chapter discusses the challenge of getting nobles to read and how King Alfred planned to address this issue. Alfred aimed to make reading cool and essential for the nobles as well, so he made his court a center of learning and invited scholars from Britain and the continent. Alfred also played an active role in translating books into Old English, creating a new body of knowledge accessible to his people.
