strength training is great for marathon runners from injury prevention, also just to aerobic performance and benefiting the aerobic profile there. For somebody like a sprinter, having too big of muscles in your lower body could actually become a problem because as muscles get bigger and stronger, they don't always get faster. Being big doesn't always equal being fast. There's lots of different reasons for that from fiber type transitions to pination angle changes.
