Beta-Lactam TDM: A Safety Mechanism for Antibiotics

There are other patients who would benefit from TDM because of the risk of undexposure or subtherapeutic concentrations. These include those with augmented renal clearance, obese individuals and patients with bacterial isolates that have elevated MICs. Now we don't mandate beta-lactam TDM in any patient population but we highly recommend it. And so what I really want the audience to appreciate today is how important TDM is for beta lactams for the efficacy component which I don't think we think of first and foremost.
