The closer to the centre of it you are, the weirder and on some level, more sickening it is. It almost creates this dicodomy where people are either talked about as like, gods or literal gods, or whatever. And then when you turn out to be a complicated person, or you make a lot of missteps, maybe you aren't as worthy of the platform that you've been given as you wish they were.
