How Do You Know if You Want Exclusivity?

I decided on the first day of my business, what day I was going to sell it for when there was a conscious decision to start having these conversations 12 months before that date. So I backwards plan the business from that point. How many clients would I need at this point, what price would they need to be paying? Then it even further back. And your stock answer to that is, hey, you want exclusivity, you just buy the company. Exactly. Were you serious at that point that you would be open to selling a company or was that more of a joke? No.
