I think there's a great deal of snobbery in literary circles, especially in parkestown, when it comes to crime. Any one who does not belong to that certain circle is viewed as an outsider. I was the first south african to write and publish crime fiction in south africa. Back then, it was viewed aser the stuff that common people read. Less intelligent people under the apartet regime used to tell good africanes that they shouldn't dread this sort of thing.
