Is There a Dead Line?
When we switch from one task to another, there is a bit of remnants of the previous task that are still active in our working memory as we switch to the next thing. And so because a part of us is always thinking about what just came before, we find it more difficult to immerse ourselves in what we're doing in the moment. Time is also a factor. The more time pressure were under to get something done, the less of a switching cost we will incur when we switch to a different thing.
