In 1966, Masters in Johnson published a book that dedicated an entire chapter to the clitoris. They described it as an organ system which is limited in physiologic function to initiating or elevating levels of sexual tension. Dr. Burt decided the clitoris was too far from the opening of the vagina for women to receive adequate stipulation from the penis missionary position.
