The Fed Is Raising Interest Rates to Fight Inflation
The cost to the government of making the interest payments on that debt has been low thanks to 0% interest rates. The Fed is raising interest rates to fight the inflation that it created, and it's creating a huge problem for the government. Deficit spending is an engine of inflation, because inevitably the bigger deficits get monetized by the central bank.
