How to Use Random Data to Confirm Hypotheses

One technique that I absolutely love is that when you collect data, you withhold some of it, picked it random from your data. So I'd say like 20% of it, put it in an vault. Do all the analysis you want, anything you want. Even if you want to do 100 analyses, at first that sounds crazy. But then at the end, when you pick the few that you think are most important and most interesting and check them on the 20% you've data would help. And so it's a great way to enforce discipline on yourself as a researcher.
