A layman is a normal person who's not, doesn't have specialist knowledge. Bogus knew that among the most coveted examples of 18th century English furniture are three pieces known as the Chippendale commodes. He began to move around the room, examining the other furniture, one piece at a time. Apart from the commode, it was a very poor lot. The rest of it was not worth anything really.
