Using deep neural networks to predict protein is not an innovation of this work. People have tried this for quite a while. But i think that there's two kind of main pieces here that are really kind of set this apart. And the second is this kind of iterative process, which kind of helps the network learn across these representations and the predicted structure in a really powerful way.

AlphaFold is an AI system developed by DeepMind that predicts a protein’s 3D structure from its amino acid sequence. It regularly achieves accuracy competitive with experiment, and is accelerating research in nearly every field of biology.
