The Difference Between Provoked and Unprovoked Seizures

A common consult for us is the first seizure and I was just sort of wondering if you can share some thoughts about treating the first time's seizure versus not. Often it's very clear when it's drug or alcohol withdrawal, electrolyte arrangements, hypoglycemia, etc. That's provoked. We'd never treat that with anti-seizure drugs. Some of these ones in the gray area we might temporarily treat with anti-Seizure drugs for event recurrence but then have a conversation about long-term anti- Seizure drugs as time goes on.
