The hierarchy of being is not about complexity of organisms or of existence it is about the interiority of movement how self-directed is that movement so very basically you have non-living things which are all interacting with each other due to the laws of physics and there's external action reaction. plants are purging non-living matter of their total inactivity which means that they can't give themselves to another but he sees the entire product the entire hierarchy of being moving towards free self-giving He says that life is fundamentally a gift it's about giving the first time you see that is in plants giving out offspring into the world.
