Roy Jenkins had been the great success of Wilson's cabinet. There was intense speculation that Jenkins should take over in number 10. And lots of MPs were telling Jenkins, you've got to do it. Even though Wilson lost the 1970 election, what he said was true. It's something by the way that leaders struggle to learn. WIT is a really powerful weapon in politics.
