The Flywheel Metaphor
A flywheel has a lot of momentum, but it's not unstoppable. If you actively begin to resist it, it will start to slow down even if imperceptibly at first. So yes, in terms of technological stagnation, this is something that people have been talking about at least since the 2010s. This is also not a prediction for the future. But we've been looking at certain symptoms that we can see historically over the last 50 years or so.
