The Modal Nature of Vim
The point where it starts to make sense really is when you accept the modal nature of Vim. And if you think of every little trip into insert mode as being like a brush stroke then that sort of modal nature starts to really make sense. So having that sort of being able to think in modes just made everything feel natural. From there at least your patterns of thought are aligned with them's ways of making you do things.
