Historians should never dismiss as unserious ideas that historical figures took seriously. Astrology embodies a particular view of the cosmos and our place in it. Babyloni and astronomical ideas influenced Indian astrologers in the Mauryan period. Greek astrological writing was translated into Sanskrit in the second century AD. By the fourth and fifth centuries we see Indians deploying the Greek theory of epicycles.
