The Garden of Cyrus is a bizarre text by Thomas Brown. It addresses something quite important in the apophatic tradition that humans are fidget thinkers, we constantly need the jolt of the new. The constant need for new metaphors is part of the Apophatic tradition and it's also an important part of the scientific tradition. In 17th century there was this desire to accrue new facts to find new elements of the world to wonder about to think about.
