The Spanish Armada

The Spanish had to react quickly to avoid disaster and their quick thinking allowed for their fleet to remain unscathed. The English were not prepared to allow the Spaniards this luxury so they sent warships packed with combustible and flammable material towards the Spanish fleet at Calais. This was a disaster for the Spanish who believed that there was no way to return along the English Channel to escape the situationSo they chose to head north and circumnavigate Great Britain instead. Be half of the Spanish Armada eventually returned to Spain. But realistically the whole event could have turned out completely differently as fortune favoured the English.
