The Politics of Life and Death in Madari
Infrastructure has this sort of high stakes associated with it that we wanted to really talk about, especially at particular punctuated moments. And so for us, the kind of corruption stories told about infrastructure really brings in to relieve the life and death stakes. The film was inspired by the 2011 collapse during heavy rains of an overhead metro bridge under construction on the Andari Koolar Road leading to Mumbai's airport. So again, politics of life and death, and it becomes then an obsession for Irfan Khan's character to show that this was not just an accident but this was actually due to corruption.
