What Are the Social Constructions of Skill?
From the mid twentieth century, there was a kind of popery of changes, particularly in what we call the liberal market economies. There was an attack on trade unions and the apprenticeship system. And then there was the significant re entry of women into the labor market. You argue that these well known changes have led to a new social construction of skill. Now, who defines skill is up to the employers, and it does centre very much on so called soft skills.
