I think it's only going one way and he will go. It seems to me as straightforward as party gate this one in that whatever his defence is before he became party chairman, he had this exchange with HMRC. And you can't then authoritatively comment on a whole range of things when you have been written off as careless by HMRC. So what is interesting, I think, is as we move towards the next election, there are so many echoes with the final months of the John Major government where sleaze and disputes about economic policy and tax and Europe just submerge that government.
