I think that like you know this completely goes it flies in the face of the cultural appropriation argument right. The vast majority of people who are not deaf do not speak ASL or any other sign language and so they communicate better in ASL. There have been some moves towards getting non-deaf people to learn ASL, which is fucking great because then you can get into relationship with them. It also highly opens up and expands the number of people that deaf people can be in relationship with. I feel like if we want to protect minority languages and we want services to exist in minority languages And we want speakers of minority languages to be part of communities then we really need to encourage
