Galileo and Astronomy
There was a certain level of tolerance when it came to debates around astronomy. Astronomy was fine, so long as the astronomer did not fancy himself a theologian. Galileo laid out a number of astronomical observations that he made with his telescope in Padua over the course of a few months in late 1609 and early 1610. With his telescope, Galileo could see that the surface of the moon was quite a lot more like thesurface of the Earth than had been previously assumed.
