The History of Frederick the Great
Britain supported Prussia in the Seven Years War between 1756 and 1763 with generous subsidies over 700,000 pounds sterling. He was an opportunist. He was absolutely a chancer. Until quite recently, the German literature on Frederick was incredibly embarrassed about this, and very reluctant to even touch the topic. It is quite often mentioned that his wife didn't live with him, and he sort of went to visit her once a year for her birthday.
