Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit, for Theirs Is the Kingdom of Heaven

Blessed is a better translation for us to get our head around what's being said here. The idea of blessed, like blessed be the word there, means happy. God's favor is on those who and if that, if this is a list of things that were supposed to aspire then what this becomes is, god's favor rests on somebody else. But not only does this run counter to everything else that jesus is going to teach us, but the reasoning doesn't work with all the statements.
