There was a proposal in the CSS working group for this thing called apply at apply and the way it worked is actually kind of cool so you can actually set of CSS variable to be multiple properties. The proposal was to introduce an at apply that would then take all of those and apply it to the selector but they scrapped it because scoping and CSS variables were being used too much. I don't think we will ever see this type of thing make it into native CSS, which makes sense as to why it doesn't work.
