The Myth of the Founding Fathers

There is simply no significance, in horne's narrative, to the opposition to slavery, and the fact that some states abolished slavery during or immediately after the revolution. It is not the case that the same people who advocated for independence then crafted and ratified the constitution. For instance, patrick henry? He was a fervent advocate for independence. But he opposed the drafting and ratification of the constitution. And in his view, the constitution created too strong and centralized a government and threatened to destroy the liberty that the revolution had secured in the first place.
