Drone Metal and Mysticism

There was a lot of claims that drone metal really does hark back to ancient in quote tribal religious forms. I think this is kind of deliberately played on by some musicians and it's certainly picked up on by parts of the audience but my interest wasn't so much kind of proving or disproving whether this really genuinely had connections to ancient religion. What's more interesting to me is kind of how those ideas are mobilized and why people find them important to kind of to draw on now.
