The History of Greek Colonization

The word colony or colonization comes from Latin and the Romans already started referring to the Greek cities in all these places, Black Sea and South of Italy as colonies. Early modern colonialism and imperial conquest starting in the 17th century, increasing in the 18th and 19th century. These conquests happened literally with Thucydides and the ancient authors in their hands. Today luckily we are more critical towards talking about colonisation and we realise that it was actually a very devastating phenomenon to native populations.
