Is Right Turn on Red Safer Than Other Right Turns?
In 2019, D-DOT at the request of Mayor Bowser instituted no right turn on red at 100 intersections. Chase Build: There's not a ton of research that shows that it drastically reduces crashes or having it drastically increases it. "I have had plenty of hairy situations as a pedestrian and a cyclist in DC with right turns," he says. The city data do show that pedestrian cyclist deaths hasn't changed.
