Hayek was neither a conservative nor a progressive or a socialist. He founded a group when he was at the University of Vienna, which they called the Geist Christ. Their main principle was that they weren't going to choose between Catholics and Jews or Protestants. Anyone who didn't want to belong to one of those tribes.
