Emiel Haqayam worked for many years in Washington, then based himself in the Middle East and now works here in London. He believes that the Saudi move has to be understood as part of a broader reorientation of the country's international relationships taking place under Mohammed bin Salman. I think the relationship is in an all-time low. There's no trust in Washington or in Riyadh. The relationship has become very cold, very transactional.
