The Odyssey of Cyrus and the Greeks

With Cyrus now dead, the Greek mercenaries offered to continue fighting with the intent of making Clearchus king. He refused on the grounds that he was not of royal blood and so would not find enough support among the Persians to succeed. The two sides agreed upon terms and exchanged oaths. They could either slip away unseen or out-distance the enemy. So they set out at daybreak with the sun on their right and reached some Babylonian villages as the sun was setting. A large army of heavy troops were now roaming freely in Persian territory.
