At the time we had an actual Nintendo 64 PlayStation style y'all cable that you'd plug in. The video processing was being done on the device it was being written to a buffer pipe. It would just try to write one frame and then the next,  then the next in the next frame or whatever. So even if the chip manufacturer had continued to produce the chip could stop producing the chip they had a stock supply of it but i don't think it was quite one-to-one.
