The Importance of Political Engagement
In the Soviet Union, political engagement was mandatory for professional advance. One had to be a member of communist organizations appropriate for your age from the first grade and to adulthood. Political disagreement with the regime was classified as a symptom of psychiatric disorder. Despite vast resources, USSR lost the Cold War, crumbled and collapsed. Today, Russia is hopelessly behind the West in technology and science - they must remember this lesson.
