The manhattan project was run like a start up. It was, everything was done like a start-up. And one of the most amazing things about it is that they got top quality researchers to work on ship other than their own personal hobby horses. The apollo program was still led by von b down in his huntsville team. They would go out and get grant proposals for research related to building an atomic bomb.
