All modern translations and all the critica editions of the greek new testament present the text as being offered by mary. But in irineus and origin, you have a divided authority in both of those church fathers. And there is a fourth century latin preacher who gives elizabeth as the author. We don't know if the translators were drunk as skunks while they were doing it. The greek texts, which are substantial, all say merit. Why would anybody then want to alter the the situation to make elElizabeth the author?
