What Was DCPS Doing for 10 Years?
For 10 years, we had a charter sector that was growing and in fact, lots of families were leaving the traditional public schools for charter schools. My take has always been if charters are doing something better than us, let them do that. And so I think that for 10 years, it really didn't have an impact. But now we're at a point where we're no longer competing. We are cooperating and collaborating, which is actually the best way for charters to exist in an ecosystem where there is a traditional school system.
