The Importance of Taking Up the Cross

Sometimes we have to hear this promise and naming of what reality is going to be so that when the reality happens, it's familiar. To paraphrase one of my students, it's to announce that Roman crosses don't work. The greatest tool that they have is is is weak. That even Rome has limits, even Rome's power has limits. I like the empire strikes back. yeah. Yeah. My nerdiness likes it. Should we go to Jeremiah? Yes. So for me, using a term we use in our class, Caroline, the function of a sermon on Jeremiah could be to demonstrate how those who hope in God hold lament and praise together.
