I think the reason that employers support it is largely from a position of inertia, they feel that it's necessary and beneficial for them to run their business. CEOs don't stay awake at night thinking about how am I going to spend billions of dollars on something peripheral to my business. The consensus view with people who vote with their money, their wallets, rather than just rhetoric, is that there's a benefit as a purely business decision given the culture and the nature of our economy.
