The Importance of Small Modular Reactors in India
India has identified potential for 40 gigawatt of small modular reactors at various brownfield sites in the country. Small modular reactors contain a fraction of the uranium that is there in a large reactor they have a lot of passive safety measures and therefore are an essential supplement to larger reactors. I don't think in India private players will come into the picture because of various issues in the power sector particularly payments issue etc. So we need both technologies to be willing to be partnered whether imported or domestic but also evolved, he says.
