In 67 BC, Pompey cleared the Mediterranean of pirates in three months. The senate had seen enough and ordered Licolis to come home. He spent the rest of his days in semi-retirement living a life of excessive luxury. So renowned were his feasts that the word Licolis is still used as a synonym for lavish.
